Torture victim suffered horrific burns after he was made to choose between being set on fire, having every bone broken or having limbs cut off .

A torture victim was made to choose between being set on fire, having all his bones broken or having limbs cut off – and opted to be set alight, a court has heard.   Brodie McDougal was given the terrifying options by Callan Stuart Murray, a man he believed wanted to recruit him into a violent bikie gang.

On Thursday, Murray was sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison at Western Australia's District Court.

He pled guilty to a charge of grievous bodily harm with intent, while a deprivation of liberty charge was dropped.

The brutal three-hour assault happened on September 16, 2019, at Murray's home near Mandurah, south of Perth.

The court heard how Murray, 28, lured the 22-year-old McDougal to his home by threatening his family if he did not go.

He then beat McDougal with a baseball bat before offering him the stomach-churning options.

Weighing which of the excruciating ordeals might give him the best chance of survival, McDougal went with fire, a court heard on Thursday.

Murray poured petrol over McDougal's head and used a blowtorch to light the flame.

The young man suffered horrific burns to his chest and head and spent three weeks in intensive care.

Painful skin grafts followed, as well as a year of recovery even after which McDougal was left unable to work and coping with psychological damage caused by his terrifying ordeal.
