26 army generals test positive for coronavirus .

There are fresh worries over the state of COVID-19 in the Nigerian Army as 26 generals who had contact with late Major General Olu Irefin, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Port Harcourt, tested positive for the infectious disease.

Irefin was said to have visited some of his colleagues before the conference.

This was disclosed by Brigadier General Sagir Musa, the acting director of army public relations, who confirmed the positive cases as of Sunday, December 13, after a total of 417 personnel took the test.

Irefin during the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference 2020 tested positive for COVID-19 in Abuja. He died of respiratory failure due to the complications of COVID-19 infection after he was taken to a military hospital.

According to the acting director of army public relations, all those who attended the conference are in self-isolation irrespective of their results, adding that COVID-19 treatment dr*gs have been issued to those that tested positive.

The army spokesman noted that the entire Army Headquarters complex was thoroughly fumigated by health officials on Saturday last week.
